Shakespeares Presentation of Macbeth
Shakespeares Presentation of Macbeth Close to the beginning of the play Shakespeare presents Macbeth to be defeated andâ courageous. After Macbeth wins the fight, Malcolm insinuates him as a serious andâ solid trooper and King Duncanadmits/sees/responds to him as a commendableâ honorable man. This tells the social occasion of individuals that Macbeth has won the battle,â as well as is respected by individuals with incredible impact, accordingly they should regardâ him. Shakespeare does hintMacbeths insidious side when the Captain explains thatâ he unseamed him [Macdonwald] from the nave to thechops, And settled his head uponâ our (house dividers with gaps to get guns through). Macbeth killedMacdonwald byâ slitting him open from his navel to his jawbone and stuck his head their (tremendous,â favor, stone house) dividers. Macbeths awful actionsare concealed by hisâ courageous direct and recognition by others, so the social occasion of individuals is ignorant ofâ insidiousness possible. Macbeth is praisedby othe rs which shows up/addresses him asâ gallant, yet minimal smart looks of violence is showed up at thebeginning of theâ play. Similarly, Shakespeare at that point goes to introduce Macbeth as the legit fundamentalâ character. At whatever point Macbeth meets the three witches and his desire isâ appeared/encouraged to him, as showed by Banquo he isstart[eld] and fear[ful]â towards the witches and what they are expressing. Macbeths disarrayâ appears/representshim to be essentially helpless. This is the most irreproachable theâ crowd sees Macbeth in the play. Disregarding the way that hes future is pronounced toâ him, he doesnt know the effect it will hold. The social affair of individuals respond diverselyà toMacbeths desires. Since they are not arranged in the play, they are anxious toâ perceive how Macbeths future turns out to be rather than overwhelmed. Macbeths excitementâ appears/addresses him to be oblivious of theevil that is going to go lowered him.â More than that, Shakespeare presents Macbeth to be (in an embarrassingly frightenedâ way). Regardless, Macbeth was not a frail, he was very keen. Macbethsâ discourse in Act 1 Scene 7, explains how a risky showing will bring aboutâ discipline and train others to do/perform bad behaviors. Also, his solidâ ethics are show when heexpresses how he wouldnt like to break the rulers trust. He communicates that longing to do uncommon things whichoverleaps itself and fallsâ on the other, which means longing to do phenomenal things makes people actâ in clear and reasonable ways andcauses calamity. This exhibits the social occasion ofâ people that Macbeth once knew the eventual outcomes of homicide, the danger of yearning to do. fantastic thingsand had held down strong morals. Lady Macbeths movingâ around/beguiling and deluding displayedMacbeth to take care of business (whos on edge about evenâ slight hazard) and requests his manliness. She in like manner embarrassed (before manyâ indi viduals) him by taking a gander at his individual (whos on edge about even slightâ danger)ness to the way that she ran the cerebrums out of her newborn child. Macbeth mayâ have been smart, yet the way that his wifecontrolled/moved around/tricked him causesâ the social occasion of individuals to consider him to be a man (whos restless about even slight hazard). Moreover, presents Macbeth to be accountable. After he executes King Duncan,à Macbethlooks at his hand and insinuates them to being a grief stricken sight. Thisâ demonstrates Macbeth is humiliated with whathe has done. Pressure also putsâ submerged/envelops by something Macbeth, when he starts seeing or hearing thingsâ that arent there after he finds the news that his authorities execute Banquo. Whileâ making a scene during dinner Ross considers him to be not well andLennox wishes thatâ better prosperity go to his grandness. The social event of individuals have an enthusiastic (aâ shocking and fascinating event that is the right converse of what is typical) ofâ the situation which suggests they know more than the guests do. Disrespect is aâ disorder, so what theguests seehas Macbeths ailment, the gathering of spectators sees asâ additionally see as cleared out. Anyway their reaction is unmistakable: the crowdâ doesnt recognize like Macbeths guests do, they rather believe t hat he is commendableâ ofthis discipline. Finally, Shakespeare presents Macbeth to be desensitized toâ sentiments. In the wake of hearing the call of awoman, Macbeth (understands/makes authentic/achieves) that he has disregarded the pith of fears. Macbethâ hasbecome so not ready to be hurt by malevolence that heâ cant dread. Furthermore, when Seyton uncovers to Macbeth that the queenis deadâ he has a carelessreaction. He exhibits no wretchedness, rather communicating that sheâ ought to have passed on after now. Not onlyhas Macbeth lost his capacityâ to dread, but instead his ability to feel. He proceeds to have a rash view onâ lifestating that it shows up/shows nothing. He believes that people pressure a lotâ over life, whichmeans that he has no worry in any way shape or form. Macbeths reaction to Seytons message, changes the social affair of people groups perspectiveâ of Macbeth. Heâ changes from the guiltless essential character to the corruptâ principle character thusly the crowd has shock (over being abused)â towards him. Macbeth is so engaged with fault, that he has lost the capacity to feel. In end/last item, Shakespeare displays a lessening in Macbeths character allâ through the play, through the eyes of various characters. He is right off the bat watched asâ overcome, at that point he is portrayed as the legitimate guideline character. As he changes,â he changes into singular (whos on edge about even slight risk), at that point aâ dishonorable man andfinally a man desensitized to feeling.

Importance of Greek Mythology Essay
ââ¬Å"Greek folklore is the group of stories having a place with the antiquated Greeks, concerning their divine beings and legends, the nature of the world and their own clique and ceremonial practices. Present day researchers alluded to the legends and considered them trying to reveal insight into the strict and political establishments of old Greece and, all in all, on the antiquated Greek human advancement. â⬠(reference) Mythical portrayal played a huge, and furthermore significant job in the lives of the antiquated Greeks, they depended for the most part on the legendary stories to direct them through emergency and gave them something to put stock in; the same number of individuals follow Godââ¬â¢s words and the Holy Bible in our present time. The epic sonnets ââ¬Å"The Illiadâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Odysseyâ⬠are the most seasoned known scholarly sources from the folklore time that we are aware of. These sonnets incorporate a lot of significant life exercises, for example, otherworldly development, steadfastness, and tirelessness; however these are just a chosen few of the fundamental subjects in the epic sonnet, ââ¬Å"The Odyssey. â⬠Homer works admirably in relating this message through different characters, undertakings, and obstructions all through the book. In the epic sonnet, ââ¬Å"The Odyssey,â⬠Homer shows the significance of profound development through numerous cases. Odysseus starts on Calypsoââ¬â¢s island and he has been persuaded he possesses everything, with the exception of the most significant thing, satisfaction. Odysseusââ¬â¢ becomes discouraged on the grounds that he understands the amount he misses his country. Homer presents Odysseus at a terrible time to stress the development of Odysseusââ¬â¢ soul from starting as far as possible. On the off chance that Homer would have expounded on Odysseus upbeat from the earliest starting point, at that point the development would not have appeared as pervasive. Odysseus appears to light up a considerable amount as he sees the light in cruising home. He is severely tried Poseidon about slaughters him when on the shore of the main island that he comes to, Scheria. The Odyssey says, ââ¬Å"and caught inside that discharge of the brackish water, Odysseus would have kicked the bucket before his time had not dim looked at Athena directed him. â⬠This is just one case of numerous that appears to shows the exercise of otherworldly development in ââ¬Å"The Odyssey. â⬠This epic sonnet likewise depicts steadfastness from numerous points of view from characters to circumstances. In The Odyssey, there stayed three principle characters that stuck out and demonstrated their dependability to Odysseus while he was away battling in the Trojan War and attempting to advance back to Ithaca. It appears that out of the considerable number of characters, the most steadfast individual to Odysseus could have been basically ignored, however it most unquestionably would have been Odysseusââ¬â¢s spouse, Penelope. She stayed dedicated to her better half considerably after just about twenty years separated from him. She wouldn't wed one of the admirers that bothered her step by step; so it came as a shock to discover that Odysseus is generally unfaithful to his better half. This piece of the epic sonnet spoke to the human-like character of Odysseus in demonstrating that even he could commit errors, and furthermore wasnââ¬â¢t anything near great. Telemachus, at a certain point, demonstrates his dedication to Odysseus by going along with him on going on a journey to get familiar with his dad, Odysseus. There are a variety of implications for every story and in the Odyssey itself, and there are a lot a bigger number of understandings than only one translation. From this point of view, one of the primary subjects of the Odyssey is constancy. Tirelessness is a significant topic and is one that is seen a considerable amount all through the whole epic sonnet and certainly by more than one character. As a matter of first importance, there is Odysseus and he was welcomed with steadiness in the absolute starting point of the story. He was held hostage by Calypso on an island, when later visited by Athena, Odysseus builds up a much more grounded want to return home. Disregarding Calypsoââ¬â¢s ingenuity, he at that point chose to leave. Odysseus additionally had an experience with Circe, and was given a lot of various sorts of enticement. He took the ocean again in view of his child and spouse, and continued home. Odysseus and his men wind up running into the lotus-eaters. The lotus plants gave an incredible, loosening up feeling for the entirety of the team, and nobody needed to leave with the exception of Odysseus who remained his course. Diligence is additionally shown in his method of contemplations, and furthermore his longing to endure and now and again overcome, are characteristics that advance his tirelessness. For instance, when Odysseus at last gets back, he intends to execute the entirety of the admirers that have been seeking his significant other and winds up doing as such. Homerââ¬â¢s epic sonnets The Iliad and The Odyssey have let us get somewhat of a sample of the significance Greek Mythology for the old Greeks. His compositions have let us perceive the amount they trusted in the Greek folklore and how they applied the existence exercises to their own lives. I discovered numerous correlations with the Gods and Goddesses of Greek Mythology to our God that numerous individuals trust in today. Their words and stories were as imperative to us as His accounts are to us today. Homerââ¬â¢s epic sonnet, The odyssey included numerous clearly significant life exercises that the antiquated Greeks gained from and took from the accounts in the manner they experienced their lives.

Forget your plan for a minute
Forget your plan for a minute This morning at breakfast, I gave my son (the high school junior) some advice for how to quickly finish his art notebook cover project, which was already late on day two of school. âHey, instead of doing another elaborate drawing like the one you were up all night doing, why not make a quick collage? You can use existing images from magazines and your old posters and cut them out and arrange them in some pattern and just see what happens. âJust see what happens, Mom? I have a plan for this cover.â Blank stares at the table. The 18-yr-old started snorting over his scrambled eggs and talking in some silly accent and they both began goofing on collages. âOk, whatever, I was just trying to help.â Because I have teenagers at home, I realize this makes me an âauthority/ parent-type figureâ and maybe not someone you want giving you advice. My 18-yr-old just nods at me while I continue talking after he is finished railing about how I donât understand him and this is usually my cue to calmly stop myself from being such a mom and work on leaving the room. But I actually do understand him. I still remember being a college student and feeling like my life had to follow one track and be focused and accomplished, one class logically building on to the next, one project leading to the next one. The truth is, life rarely ever works like that. Iâm thankful now that I went to an art school and spent most of my time in film theory classes because I was forced to consider what I was going to make of my life every semester. I had to keep thinking about what extra skill or experience to add to this five-year âcollageâ I was making as an undergraduate working towards a BFA. Looking back, thatâs a nice metaphor for what I was doing. But at the time, I felt exactly like Jenny X did worrying about â falling behind.â Jenny says something very wise in her post when she talks about her internship in China and how âits never too late to be in charge of what you want to do. And that on the flip side of fearing falling behind is being constrained by the pressure of following a well-planned path that may or may not still be what you want.â Well said, Jenny. And true. I think the greatest challenge for current MIT students and anyone considering coming to MIT is to be flexible while still managing to get things done and maintain the high standards you all have for yourselves. There is so much to do here, so much to get involved in, and so many paths to try. But you wonât know where one is going to lead until you give yourself the opportunity to change your mind, and be led in a new direction. Matt wrote a post about taking a gap year and Gabe wrote very eloquently this summer on the life changing aspects of hiking for a semester and getting in tune with his authentic self. And while these options are definitely worth thinking about, I challenge all of you to consider your time in college more as a work of art than as a focused linear roadmap. You all have brilliant minds. You are going to do big important things. You just may not do them all according to how you imagined they would unfold and thatâs ok. Remember, we ask you in the application essays to tell us how you handled a situation in which things did not go according to plan. We do this for a good reason. In all my years as a mom, as an artist, as a communications professional, as a homeowner, as a student (over and over again it seems)⦠things very rarely go according to plan. And when this happens to you, head over to the LIST gallery and take a look at some of the artwork on display and be inspired or travel off campus with some friends and go into Boston to try something youâve never done before. And if none of those things end up working to help you gain some new perspective, then get down on the floor with a bunch of magazines and start cutting and arranging and make a collage. Just see what happens.

Literary Devices In Bram Stokers Dracula - 1296 Words
The novel Dracula had, and still has an immense effect on horror through its use of literary elements which are observable in horror movies. Bram Stokers Dracula was revolutionary in its use of literary devices such as dramatic irony, to convey suspense, and the use of sexuality in literature. These devices were adapted to film in early horror movies and continue to appear till today. Dracula was very influential to the film industry when it comes to horror movies because horror movies draw a lot of devices used in Dracula and use them in their movies, this can be seen in movies such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, and the movie adaptation of Dracula. The first inspiration that the Dracula novel has on horror movies is the use ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Stroker writes ââ¬Å"The strength of the handshake was so much akin to that which I had noticed in the driverâ⬠(Stroker 24). This quotes shows the grip strength of Dracula even at his old age, showing that he is immort al. This motif can be seen commonly in the sub genre of ââ¬Å"slasherâ⬠movies where a ââ¬Å"Crazedâ⬠type killer is upon the victims, and in these movies the killer is portrayed as invulnerable. This can be seen in John Carpenterââ¬â¢s Halloween where Lourie shoots Michael Myers in the face to no avail, as he just shrugs it off and continues his attack. This trait of invulnerability adds a great amount of terror surrounding the villain, as it gives the audience the impression of hopelessness. In conclusion the trait of invulnerability can be seen in both Dracula and in the slasher movie genre. An additional way that horror movies are inspired by dracula is the way that the villain in each media for is molded by a deviant sexuality. This can be seen in Dracula by the use of blood transfusions performed by the vampires to symbolize rape. Stroker writes, ââ¬Å"I was afraid to raise my eyelids, but looked out and saw perfectly under the lashes. The girl went on her knee s, and bent over me, simply gloating.â⬠(Stroker 55) This parallel can be seen in horror movies with the common use of nudity in the movies, as well as the fact that a lot of slasher movie villains are raped as children. Putting the steps in categories will also help out the unfairness. Also being discussed is how the compensation will be presented. What steps will be taken to ensure that all employees are eligible for the compensation program. Giving the steps out so the employee knows what is to be expected. Compensation and Security for Employees Some companies have different levels of employees; some include entry level employees to executives. Categorizing employees is a little difficult, especially if there is a lot of turn over. Some employees that have been in the company for more than a year may still be in an entry level position, but deserve to be at a junior level position. The main purpose for this program is to ensure a low employee turnover. These employees should be compensated not for their position but how they perform in that position (Snell, 2010). Other companies may give a bonus or compensation for getting hired into the company. Bonuses are given mainly in monetary fashion; they are given also if the employee is at the company for six months or more. Categorizing employees is a big job, but also can save on money. Categorizing employees from entry level to CEO is difficult especially if there are several levels. The first step is to categorize employees is to know how many employees are in each level. Also included in the first step is a description of what each employee level is. How many employees there are in each level and how they get the incentive in the level. Level 1: entry level- fifty employees, these employees are the ones that have recently been hired, or have been with the company for six months to a year. Frequent turnover accrues with in the first two months of hire (Snell, 2010). That is why an incentive is give after the six month in the position. Level 2: junior level- thirty employees, these are the employees that have been with the company for a year or more a monetary incentive is usually given after the employee has given their commitment to the company for a year and a half. Level 3: lead level- twenty employees, these employees are the leads in their units or departments, they have been promoted from the junior level and have worked for the company for more the 2 years. The first incentive is the promotions; they also get an incentive for job performances in the first six months after becoming a lead. Level 4: supervisor level- fifteen employees, these employees have also been leads that have been promoted (Ederhof, 2011). Supervisors have worked for the company for four years or more. The incentive for this level is after a year of being a supervisor. The supervisory level compensation will be based on job performance, and the supervisors past performances. Level 5: manager level- forty employees, these employees are either hired for the manager level or they have been promoted from the supervisor level. These employees are committed to the company. Their incentive is for job performance, going above and beyond the call of their position. Level 6: Coordinatorââ¬â¢s level-seventeen employees, these employees are listed as high as executives. These coordinators are budget coordinators, financial coordinators, company event coordinators. These employees are hired outside the company; they are hired for their skills of coordinating several departments. These employees know how to work through stress and deadlines. This level compensation is based solely on performance; there is still the six month compensation after hire. Compensation shows how they work through the stress and deadlines (Ederhof, 2011). Level 7: directorââ¬â¢s level-ten employees, these employees are also hired outside the company; they have the skills and experience to do their job. These employees are responsible for several departments and the employees that work in those departments. The directors are higher than the managers. This is where deciding how the compensation will work for the remaining levels will get a little more difficult. They also are goal oriented and will make goals for the departments they run (Reh, 2013). Level 8: Administration Assistantââ¬â¢s level: five employees, these employees are usually hired outside due to unfairness of the other employees. The employees have four to five yearsââ¬â¢ experience in the field. Administrative assistants work directly with the COââ¬â¢s and presidents. Their work is monitored above any employee in the company. Their stakes are higher when it comes to incentives and compensations. This is not an entry level position. Level 9: COââ¬â¢s level- twelve employees, these employees have specific areas of experience. Some of the COââ¬â¢s that would be in the company are: Chief executive officer (CEO) chief accounts officer (CAO), chief information officer (CIO), chief financial officer (CFO) to name a few. There is about eight to ten yearsââ¬â¢ experience in their field. Their goal is to keep things in their department running smoothly. Level 10: presidents level five employees; this level is the most difficult level to do incentives and compensations. They are the highest and most experienced in their areas. This level of employment makes all final decisions in the company. They work closely with directors in each department; knowing what is going on throughout the company is another objective that this level is kin on. Setting goals and expectations for the different levels is not as easy as it seems. The upper levels will have more difficult goals and expectations to achieve than the lower levels. This is the second step in the incentives and compensations plan. Anything that needs to be discussed about each level should be discussed with each level in a conference or a meeting (Super Jobs for You, 2009). Get the employees involved in their goals and expectations. Setting goals and expectations are very important, it keeps employees motivated and looking forward. Level 1: goals setting and expectations for the entry level positions. Sitting down with the level 1 employees the company found out that some of the goals are pretty similar. Having the employees set goals for themselves will help the employees achieve realistic goals and set short and long term goals (Goals and Expectations, 2011). Goals for entry level employees would include: to move up in the company, to have projects done on or before the deadline, being able to type 50 words per minute every day for a month. Bring job performance up to five percent in two weeks. Another goal would be win over customers that have not been in for a while. Achieving this goal would be for each level one employee. The goal would be to get back 3 customers within sixty days. Some personal goals for employees at level one is: being able to speak up in meetings, get along with co-workers better, to talk to their superiors a lot better without being terrified of being rejected. Level 2 employees have the same goals as the level one employee with some differences. Some goals that level two employees have set for themselves are as follows: wanting to move up in the company, get sales up to ten percent before the next quarter. The incentive for reaching the customer goal would be a hundred dollars and free lunch on the company for 3 employees of level one and three employees for level two. Some of the incentives for the level one employee, once they have achieved their goal, would be a promotion with a pay raise. For finishing a project before the deadline would be a fifty dollar bonus on their next check. Level two employees would be the same, a promotion and a pay raise. Once they achieve their goal of getting sales up the company will give incentive for the first three employees who reach the goal. The incentive will be a week vacation with pay. For level 3 employees the goal setting is a bit more complicated. Some goals could be: having their department reaches a team goal within thirty days. A team goal could be to increase communication through the entire department. Also getting employee feedback from the departments to reach the specific goal (Goals and Expectations, 2011). Giving out monthly progress reports to level one and two employees, telling the employees how they are doing and where they are to achieve their own personal and professional goals. Once the communication goal is reached by one department the entire department will get fifty dollars on their next paycheck and will get a free lunch to a great restaurant on the company. For the level three employees the incentives for reaching goals and expectations would be a weekââ¬â¢s paid vacation from the company for achieving the progress report goal for the first 4 employees. This goal is also available to the level four employees also. For level 4 employees they will also make up goals for themselves as well. Some of the goals would be figuring out how to relieve the stress from their employees to increase productivity and performance. How to keep employees from going home early or calling in sick from work on Fridays. Some suggestions would be giving the employees free massage on their breaks, giving a longer lunch hour on Fridays. Setting and posting team goals that are simple and are seen everywhere. Level 5 employees personal goals could be to get out on the floor to help out lower level employees about sixty percent of the day for the next sixty days. The department goal could be to develop a plan to keep more employees from quitting and to lower turnover by fifty percent. Whichever level achieves this goal will get a twenty-five percent raise. The levels that will be competing will be levels four, five and seven. Levels 6 employees will have goals and expectations to fulfill. Some goals and expectations could be to stay up-to-date on advertising until the end of the year. Plan a company event three times a year. The big goal is to talk to customers about what they want out of the company, or what they want to see the company change and make it happen within six months. Achieving this goal would get the coordinator responsible a thirty percent raise and 2 weeks paid vacation. For the entire company goals would be an award of their choosing for working in the company for five, ten, fifteen and twenty and so on years. The awards would be for five years a plaque that says for five years of service in the company and would have the employees name on it. The ten year anniversary would be an award of their choosing, like a stereo or two hundred dollars cash. Every year would have an award that is a little more expensive and elaborate. For reporting violations and abuse to co-workers the incentive would be the same hundred dollars for reporting sexual harassment, reporting a violation of the code of conduct would award the employee with a free membership to the gym of their choice or ten free massages for two. For referring new employees the employee would get fifty after the new employee was hired and hundred after the new employee was at the company for six months. Steps that the human resource management will take to ensure that all compensation and incentives are fair and equal to all levels. Step one is to figure out different higher goals for each employee at each level. Keep goals short-term. Let all employees at the lower level know they have the potential to achieve all goals and expectations. Also let them know they lso have the ability to be promoted wit in the company. Also letting all employees know that they are valued in the company. Giving out ââ¬Å"treatsâ⬠to all employees at the end of a really long work day or work week. Company parties, picnics or celebrations, to let the employees know they are valued in the company. Celebrating the employees birthdays, to let them know that the company remembers them and that they are special. Conclusion In conclusion the paper discussed compensation and incentive for employees at all levels in the company. These employees should be compensated not for their position but how they perform in that position (Snell, 2010). Other companies may give a bonus or compensation for getting hired into the company. Bonuses are given mainly in monetary fashion; they are given also if the employee is at the company for six months or more. The steps that the company will take to keep all incentives for all the different categories and employees fair and equal. What kind of payouts for the different performances in each category. The paper will also include a section on why the compensation is awarded and how they will reward the employee or group (Snell, 2010). How to set the program to handout the incentive and when they will be awarded and how. Categorizing employees is a big job, but also can save on money. Categorizing employees from entry level to CEO is difficult especially if there are several levels. The first step is to categorize employees is to know how many employees are in each level. Also included in the first step is a description of what each employee level is. How many employees there are in each level and how they get the incentive throughout the time they spend in that level. Twenty years later, at a crossroads market Abdul Rahman met Dr. John Cox whose life had been saved by Abdul Rahmans father many years ago in Africa. Cox offered to buy Abdul-Rahman from Foster, but he refused. Two decades later Coxââ¬â¢s son William with the help of local newspaper editor Andrew Marschalk wrote articles about Abdul-Rahmanââ¬â¢s cause. Articles caught the attention of then Secretary of State Henry Clay, who convinced Presidentà John Quincy Adams to free Abdul-Rahman. Abdul Rahman set out on a quest to raise enough money to purchase his familyââ¬â¢s freedom and immediately purchased the freedom of his wife for $200. Later he succeeded in raising only enough money for two of his children and their families. He forced to leave America witout his children. In 1829, he returned to Africa. Dual Enrollment in High School and College
Dual Enrollment in High School and College The term dual enrolled simply refers to enrolling in two programs at once. This term is often used to describe programs designed for high school students. In these programs, students can begin working on a college degree while still enrolled in high school. Dual enrollment programs can vary from state to state. The names may include titles such as dual credit, concurrent enrollment, and joint enrollment.à In most cases, high school students in good academic standing have the opportunity to take college courses at a local college, technical college, or university. Students work with their high school guidance counselors to determine eligibility and decide which courses are right for them. Typically, students must meet eligibility requirements to enroll in a college program, and those requirements may include SAT or ACT scores. Specific requirements will vary, just as entry requirements vary among universities and technical colleges. There are advantages and disadvantages to enrolling in a program like this. Advantages to Dual Enrollment You can get a jump start on your college plans. By earning college credit while still in high school, you may be able to reduce the time and money youll spend in college. In many cases, a portion of the dual college/high school course tuition is paid for by the state or the local school board. The dual enrollment courses are sometimes offered right in your high school. This enables students to become familiar with the workload of a college course in the comfort of a familiar setting. Some colleges offer dual enrollment via the Internet. Disadvantages to Dual Enrollment It is important to look into the hidden costs and risks you may face once youve entered a dual enrollment program. Here are a few reasons why you should proceed with caution: Students may receive a textbook allowance, but others may have to pay for any textbooks. The cost of college books can be daunting. For instance, a college-level science book can cost more than one hundred dollars. You may want to research the cost of textbooks before you sign up for a specific course. If college courses are offered only on the actual college campus, the student will be responsible for travel to and from the campus. Consider the cost of transportation. You have to factor travel time into your time management considerations. Your tests can be more challenging, and you may suddenly have less time to study for them!College courses are rigorous, and students can get in over their heads sometimes. College professors expect increased maturity and responsibility from their students. Be prepared! By signing up for college courses before youââ¬â¢re ready, you may end up with poor grades- and those will stay on your college record forever.à Bad grades can wreck your colleg e plans. After you sign up for a college course and you start to feel like youre slipping behind, there are only two ways out: withdraw from the course or finish the course with a grade. Remember that your ultimate dream college will see both of these when you apply. Failing grades can make you ineligible for your dream college. Withdrawing from a course could make you ineligible to graduate from high school on time! Many college scholarships are designed for freshmen. If you take too many college courses while youre in high school, you could make yourself ineligible for some scholarships.Whenever you sign up for college credit courses, you are officially beginning your college career. That means you will establish an official record wherever you take courses, and you will have to provide college transcripts of those courses whenever you enter a new college- for the rest of your life. Whenever you change colleges, you will need to provide transcripts to a new college. If youre interested in a program like this, you should meet with your high school guidance counselor to discuss your career goals.

STRategic Marketing Management ( Analysis and decisions ) Term Paper
STRategic Marketing Management ( Analysis and decisions ) - Term Paper Example Asides from modifying PCs, the company also developed the audio feature on these PCs that allowed melodies and speech to be played (Baldauf and Stair, 2010:74). Since its inception, the entity has achieved various milestones with the most remarkable one being the Sound Blaster audio cards. The entity has been through difficulties and has always emerged at the top. This paper gives a detailed analysis of Creative Technology and its strategic marketing management. The major factor that has contributed to the entityââ¬â¢s success over the years is Simââ¬â¢s effective leadership. Sim is a born entrepreneur who comes up with creative ideas that have enabled the entity to remain afloat over time. He had a vision for his company and laid down quantifiable goals that saw the company increased profitability over the years (Koh, 2008:147). Sim was not only visionary but was a strategic decision-maker and highly effective in solving problems that came up in the companyââ¬â¢s operations. The second aspect that has contributed to the companyââ¬â¢s success is diversity in their products. It can be observed that technology is dynamic and in order to maintain its customers, the entity has always been conducting modifications on their products in the trendiest and latest designs. This can be observed on various occasions. For example, the company was in the lead in the sound card trade in the past twenty years and was struggling owing to the lack of new and inventive products. This explains why Creative Technology ventured into producing a wide array of products including high-end speakers, DVD players and graphic cards. This was followed by the launch of the Sound Blaster and the Cubic CT (Schaar and Chou, 2009:38). Later in 1998 the company entered into the digital segment of the entertainment industry by launching the Sound Blaster Live! That was enjoyed immense success and placed the company at a competitive advantage over its rivals including Philips and Sony.

Discussion On The Selective And Comprehensive Education Systems
Discussion On The Selective And Comprehensive Education Systems The debate on selective and comprehensive education systems is unending. Considering that every society might have its own system of education, it is almost difficult to find a homogenous agreement on which system is fit and acceptable to all. Debate on this topic always finds convincing arguments from either side. Some people argue that selective education is a practice of democracy-which gives every person the freedom to choose whatever he/she values. Proponents of selective education argue that it is a good system which ensures efficiency is maintained; to be precise, one size fit all system system weakens the value of education. Anderson (2007) argues that selective education benefits poorer pupils more. Writing about British education system, Anderson argues that we are failing to give excellent education to cleverer boys and girls and a sound basic education to less able pupils. Thesis Statement: The issue It is quite difficult to satisfactorily defend either side. This is because different people view this debate differently; human rights gurus see social segregation in it, politicians may view it either way while sociologists may claim that selection may lead to a feeling of inferiority complex in children who are viewed as less able. This paper takes the position that selective education should be discouraged, because it is an antithesis of personal choice, and it leads to social segregation and exclusiveness. The study reviews credible literature to support the thesis. Key words: selective education, comprehensive education, system, inequality. Definition of Terms Selective and comprehensive education; what is it? As it sounds, selective education involves choosing pupils to join a certain school based on a certain criterion. This usually happens at the secondary level of education, rarely doest happen at the primary level. Many schools in the world practice an open-primary school system. Pupils who are regarded as intelligent join certain schools while those that are regarded as academically less able are pooled together in a different school. The opposite of selective is the comprehensive education system which accepts all students irregardless of their propensity. Here, children of mixed abilities are taught together. Every country may have a different criterion for selecting pupils who join selective schools. For instant in a system that existed in the United Kingdom and Wales at the beginning of the 1970s, pupils were selected to join two different secondary schools based on results to a test score at age 11. In other countries entrance examinations are administered. To note is that the criterion used may vary from one society to another. Examples of selective schools are like the British grammar school, the French lycee or the German Gymnasium) Why selective education? Wales (2009) argued that education systems are of two different types; those devised and imposed upon the people and those which arise of themselves out of the needs of the education (p.1). He also reiterates that irregardless of the system, wishes of the recipients and givers of education will try to modify it in one way or the other, with the wishes of the receiver having more weight. A government might provide education, but no body may be willing to take it, whereas when a group of persons say they need education a school develops. So is it possible to say that the receivers of education determine whether it is selective or comprehensive and why? Gardner (1959) described the American comprehensive high school as a peculiar American phenomenon dependable in the provision of good and suitable education, both academic and vocational, for all persons and in a democratic environment that the American people cherish. He saw it as recipe for democracy; it gave all people equal opportunity to choose. Gardner didnt was less interested in the efficiency of the system. However manpower shortages in the 1950s and the launching of the Russian sputnik in 1957 led to criticisms in the education system, it was viewed as waste of young talent and education for all became education for none (Passow, 1971). Focus was on the academically gifted student-whose educational prowess was akin to national survival. Despite several calls for the abolishment of the system and introduction of selection (Ricover, 1963 p. 38), the system survived especially in the early 1960s which witnessed heightened human rights concern for the poor child. However variou s modifications were enacted on the existing system. This led to some form of selection, whether, de jure or de facto. Theresa May, shadow Conservative education secretary (1999) in support of selective education, stressed the need for a system, with high standards in education and which meets the needs of all children. She said it was a myth that supporters of grammar schools are only concerned about education for the rich. She said selection is based on ability, challenges all, and gives a chance to the minority. Eric Hammond, former general secretary of the electricians union and chairman, supported her arguing that giving equal value to all learners does not necessarily imply a common school and strengthening weak schools by weakening the strong ones doesnt add value. In their research Bonhomme and Sauder (2009), concluded that the average effect of attending a selective school is too minimal and the differences in the performance of selective and non selective schools is due to the pupils composition. The counter-argument Similar literature as the one expounded above might convince somebody that the only way to maintain efficiency in education and support innovation is by selection. I agree to disagree. The biggest challenge today in the world is inequality, whether economic, social or political. Segregation of any kind leads to inequality. In the US, concerns with school segregation and declining educational achievement for the minority group drew attention to selection procedures and its consequences to the minority groups, segregation, whether de jure or de facto, contributes to a form of socio-economic isolation. A 1966 U.S. Office of Education countywide study often known as the Coleman Report found that a lager population of American children attended schools that were largely segregated-often based on racial background. The Coleman survey found that solemn discrepancies in educational achievement between Negro and white existed and continued to widen. Supporting the study Wilson (1963,) maintains that utilization of educational opportunities follows, to a large degree, the lines of the stratification of the society (p. 217). Other factors held constant, Wilson observes that the socio-economic factors will affect the academic performance of the student. He also opines that the consequences are detrimental in the case of racial segregation. Charles Pinderhughes, lamented that what students learn from one another is as significant as what they learn from teachers or the hidden curriculum, and which involves things as how children think and learn about themselves, how they think about and view other people and how to cope with them. Values, morals and ethics or styles of behavior are an important part of social chemistry. A students fate control- the feeling and conviction that, he/she can take control of his/her own life is important in academics. This feeling of powerlessness in fate control can be related to the social composition of the student body. The grouping of such a student in a lower-class student body might intensify it. Roy Hattersley, former Labour deputy leader, against selection, argued that it has an adverse psychological effect on students who do not pass their 11-plus (in UK), he reiterated that regarding children as failures holds their emotions back. In addition Roy said that parents and pupils attitudes are changed by selection as grammar school pupils are habitually regarded as the elites of the society. In summing up, he cautioned that, selection often has a negative effect on primary schools who are always under incessant pressure to train pupils for the 11-plus. Roy viewed selection as an antithesis of parental choice-in which parents dont choose schools; schools choose pupils. Conclusion The above credible literature amicably supports the thesis. Selective education of any form leads to social segregation, whether de jure or de facto, real or perceived. Segregation and social exclusion brought about by selection leads to unequal moral climate which ultimately affects negatively the motivation of children by not only inculcating a sense of inferiority but also by providing a different way of perceiving life values. Selective education should be discouraged because it is an antithesis of personal choice, and it leads to social segregation and exclusiveness. The criteria used in selection in any society may not be effective, it often leads to favoritism, inequality and under funding of children who are perceived as being academically inferior to others.

What Has to Kill a Mockingbird Taught You About Prejudice and Justice?
What Has To Kill a Mockingbird Taught You about Prejudice and Justice? After reading this book I had a great knowledge of prejudice and justice in the Deep South in the 1930s. In 1861 ââ¬â 1865 war was on. Parliament abolished slavery in America in 1865 but the south needed slaves for their trade. So they carried on mistreating blacks, disobeying the law. After the war (with the North winning) blacks were still treated with injustice and inequality. The blacks still had bad jobs and most of them worked for the whites for instance a cleaner or maid. When Tom Robinson was on trial in the court there were no black people in the jury. The black people who wanted to watch the trial had to sit on the upper tier where there were limited seats so most of them stood. â⬠Your fathers no better than the niggers and trash he works forâ⬠Miss Dubose told Jem. This is an extremely racist and somewhat unnecessary comment for Miss Dubose to make. This implies that Atticus is worse than, in her opinion, the blacks and other lower class of the town. Whites treated blacks like dirt and looked down on them whenever they would pass them in the street. There was a clear social hierarchy in Maycomb; the whites viewed themselves significantly higher than the blacks. All of Tom Robinsonââ¬â¢s evidence in the court case showed that he was not guilty but because he was black the jury sentenced him to prison. Judge Taylor did not want to sentence Tom Robinson but the majority of the jury agreed on him being guilty. They all thought that just because he was black he lied and was cruel to people. Aunt Alexandra had a somewhat haughty attitude towards things like this. Atticus and Aunt Alexandra had very different views on the way of life and the way people should live. For instance they both had very different perceptions on the word trashy.Atticus uses the word trashy to describe a stuck-up white man being racist towards a black man but Aunt Alexandra uses it to describe Walt er Cunningham and his family. The clear distinction between these two very different uses of the word is that Atticus uses it to describe people who are generally ignorant but Alexandra uses it to describe people of the lower class who are dirty. This reveals that the whole way through the story Alexandra sticks to her views and not even after Tom Robinsonââ¬â¢s court case does she change her mind. In a way Atticus does the same thing and throughout the novel fights to uphold justice.Atticus is the only white man apart from Judge Taylor who is not racist or prejudice towards the blacks. In the middle of the novel when Tom Robinson is in jail, Atticus guards him himself all night and when Mr Cunningham and a group of other men ambush him all Atticus does is try to keep the peace. Miss Dubose constantly has a moan about Atticus and what he stands for and Atticus completely ignores it and is extremely polite to her. He is an extremely kind and gentle man who is loyal to Tom Robinson . At the start of the novel Scout is incredibly naive, angry and violent. She also has no respect for other people like Walter Cunnigham. Scout finds it odd and strange that Walter Cunningham pours syrup all over his meal and she isnââ¬â¢t afraid to express her opinion vocally. This upsets not only Walter but Calpurnia as well and Scout gets a good telling off from her. This shows that Scout is not only disrespectful and rude but can also be slightly snobby. When she first heard of Boo Radley she pictured him peculiar looking and was awfully scared of him. Then when Boo started leaving gifts in a tree for Jem and Scout she thought that he could maybe be alright and not creepy like she thought. Then towards the end when Boo kills Bob Ewell to defend the children, Scout realises that he is a kind and not at all freaky. In fact she takes him by the hand and talks to him with high regard. These series of extremely shocking events changes Scouts character throughout the story. To Kill a Mockingbird has taught me a great deal about Prejudice and Justice. I have especially learned about Justice from the way that Atticus acted ,the way that Scout changed but most of all Tom Robinson and the people involved in the court case.

Questionnaire Format Free Essays
Introduction Before executing any survey a researcher should ask himself few questions in particular: * why you are asking the questions * who the results are for * what you expect to ? nd from the answers * how you are going to analyse the data when you get them If you re? ect on these questions, it will be easier to compose more appropriate, accurate questions that provide useful ? ndings. This re? ection should also help to understand which method will be the most appropriate for particular needs. The choice of method therefore depends on the questions that researcher want answered. We will write a custom essay sample on Questionnaire Format or any similar topic only for you Order Now If he want to know what people do in a particular situation then a questionnaire will probably be suf? cient. If its to identify why something has occurred, a questionnaire will provide less valid responses than in-depth interviews or focus groups because in-depth interviews and focus groups allow the respondent the freedom to express things in context that may not have thought of before. This course work is dedicated to the questionnaire method of research in management. The work is separated into two parts: part one is giving an overview information of about questionnaires and part two is consider questionnaires as a research method in different type of management. Questionnaire is a formalized set of questions, usually paper based or delivered online, submitted for replies that can be analyzed for usable information: * social research * marketing research * management research Questionnaire design process 1. Specify the Information needed 2. Specify the Type of Interviewing method As it was said before each research should begin with some common steps such as specifying the necessary information and deciding which method of interviewing should be conducted for this particular research including all the advantages and possible obstacles. Also the researcher should assess what information will be sought after a thorough scanning of secondary sources of data and determine the target respondent. 3. Decide on the type of questionnaire and its structure 4. Evaluation of question content. Before including a question in the schedule, examine whether: * This question is really essential The respondent can understand the question. (i. e. is it too technical, ambiguous, or advanced for the target respondent? ) * The respondent can answer the question. (Say, the respondents possess sufficient knowledge. As such, it is better not to ask too much of factual data or about past history. ) * The respondent will answer the question. Specially, if it invades into oneââ¬â¢s pr ivacy or it requires too much effort to answer, then they usually refuse to cooperate 5. Check question phrasing. For Example * Do words have ambiguity in meaning? Are there any implied alternatives in the question? * Are there some assumptions to be made to answer the questionââ¬â¢? * Will the respondents approach the question from the same frame of reference as designed by the researcher? 6. Determine form of response to each question: The response format may be open or closed ended. In general, the type of response format will depend on the objective of the research, nature of data to be collected and analysis to be performed. 7. Determine sequence of questions. * Use simple and interesting opening questions * Put the questions in logical manner Ask for classificatory data at the end 8. Assess the physical layout of the questionnaire. Naturally, the questionnaire must be printed properly; put in elegant form and facilitate handling. 9. Pre-test the questionnaire. It is normal practice to pretest a questionnaire on a small number of target respondents. The pretest is done to assess both individual questions and their sequence of response pattern. Accordingly, a researcher must revise questions which cause problems. While developing a questionnaire, researcher must: * Use simple words in framing the questions Avoid ambiguous- questions * Avoid implicit alternatives * Avoid questions that require too much memory recall and calculation * Avoid double barreled questions * Ideally, a questionnaire should first secureââ¬â¢ some basic information to get the respondentââ¬â¢s cooperation and gradually try to collect more information about the phenomenon of interest. * It is easier to administer a multiple choice response categories that requires one simple tick. Questionnaire format Questionnaire format depends upon the amount of structure and disguise required during data collection: Structure At the time of fronting the questionnaire the researcher must appropriately determine the degree of structure to be imposed on the questionnaire. A highly structured questionnaire is one in which the question to be asked and the responses permitted are explicitly pre-specified. On the other hand in a non-structured questionnaire the questions to be asked are kept flexible in their own words and also the respondents are allowed to answer the questions in a manner they like. The response pattern may vary from open-ended to closed-ended. In open-ended question the respondent is free to choose the possible response, whereas in the closed ended from the researcher pre specifies certain options and the respondent is allowed to choose the alternatives from the given options. Disguise Disguised questions is one where purpose is not made obvious to the respondents and is asked in an indirect manner. Non-disguised questions, on the other hand, are ones which are direct and the purpose of asking them is known clearly is the respondents. Disguised questions are used in the conditions when the issues concerned are such that respondents may not give correct answer to direct questions. Questionnaires by the format can be divided into the following categories: Structured non-disguised questionnaire| Structured-disguised questionnaire| * Questions are listed in a pre-arranged order * Respondents are told about the purpose of collecting information| * Questions are listed in a pre-arranged order * Respondents are not told about the purpose of conducting survey| Non-structured non-disguised questionnaire| Non-structured disguised questionnaire| * Questions are not structured. * Researcher is free to ask questions in any sequence he/she wants. Respondents are told about the purpose of collecting information| * Questions are not structured * Researcher is free to ask questions in any sequence he/she wants. * Respondents are not told about the purpose of conducting survey| Structured, non-disguised questionnaires are very popular in marketing research studies. These are more applicable when large sample sizes are there. Non-structured, non-disguised questionnaires, on the other hand, are used when a freehand is to be provided to the respondents so that in-depth information on the subject could be solicited e. . in industrial marketing research wherein number of respondents would also be low. Non-structured, disguised questionnaires are mainly used in `motivation researchââ¬â¢. ââ¬ËWore Association Testââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ë Sentence Completion Testââ¬â¢, `Thematic Appreciation Testââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËCartoon Testââ¬â¢, etc. may be used in this category, Structured disguised questionnaires are more appropriate where responses are required towards certain sensitive issues like attitude towards aids patients, abortion etc. Questionnaire length and structure It is commonly accepted that a questionnaire should not be over long. Peopleââ¬â¢s short attention spans mean that long questionnaires are completed less accurately as people rush to ? nish them. This is also true for obvious question repetition with respondents biased towards simply repeating what they said before whether it is accurate or not. One major problem with very long questionnaires is the likelihood of participants skim reading them, which increases the likelihood of participants misinterpreting complex questions. This is also a problem with back-ground information or instructions given at the beginning of the questionnaire. Many of these problems can be counteracted with careful design of the questionnaire. The amount of motivation felt by participants to complete the questionnaire can affect how much they are prepared to concentrate on completing it. For example, participants who feel the outcomes of the research will directly bene? t them may feel more motivated to complete a questionnaire and vice versa. Since a spread of different types of users is often required, it is important to understand these variations when designing and piloting the questionnaire. To increase the usability and effectiveness of the questionnaire tool it is important to consider questionnaire is structured. This means reviewing the sequence of questions very carefully. Grouping questions together under a common theme heading will help the respondent contextualize the subsequent questions. This approach will also help identify how the sequence is likely to affect the respondent. The order in which questions are presented may bias your respondent to give more or less favorable responses. This can also happen with the response scales whereby a respondent gives the same answer throughout a section without reading the questions. To counteract this can either counterbalance the questions or can counterbalance the response. Piloting the questionnaire should help identify these problems and correct them in the ? nal version. Question wording When designing questions it is important to consider if each question will have the same meaning for everyone. It is, therefore important to make sure frame of reference is clear. Providing de? nitions or examples is a useful way to overcome these problems. Some researchers provide scenarios at the beginning of sections to contextualize the questions. Keeping questions as short and simple as possible will increase the likelihood that they will be understood as well as the accuracy of responses. Questions that are complicated by double negatives or loaded words are particularly hard for a respondent to answer. It is also important not to ask more than one question at once (e. g. ââ¬ËHow do you rate the system response times to urgent and non-urgent request? ââ¬â¢). Similarly it is essential not to ask a question that requires them to interpret meaning of a term (e. g. Do you attend online tutorials on a regular basis? ââ¬â¢ What is meant by the concept ââ¬Ëregular basisââ¬â¢, is it once a day or once a week? ). Providing a range within which to choose a response will help to clarify these choices. Ranges can also help respondents feel happier about answering some questions. For example, being asked to write down age can fe el far more invasive than choosing from a selection of age ranges. Ultimately, it is always important to consider what biases you may be relaying through the wording of a question. Leading questions are frequently the major problem with most questionnaires (e. . ââ¬ËWhy do you think online assessment is wrong? ââ¬â¢). Similarly questions that invite a socially desirable response will produced a biased set of responses. Finally, assuming a respondent will be able to remember accurate details of events several months ago is unrealistic and will produce inaccurate responses. Question types Contingency questions ââ¬â A question that is answered only if the respondent gives a particular response to a previous question. This avoids asking questions of people that do not apply to them (for example, asking men if they have ever been pregnant). Matrix questions ââ¬â Identical response categories are assigned to multiple questions. The questions are placed one under the other, forming a matrix with response categories along the top and a list of questions down the side. This is an efficient use of page space and respondentsââ¬â¢ time. Closed ended questions ââ¬â Respondentsââ¬â¢ answers are limited to a fixed set of responses. Most scales are closed ended. Other types of closed ended questions include: * Yes/no questions ââ¬â The respondent answers with a ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠or a ââ¬Å"noâ⬠. * Multiple choice ââ¬â The respondent has several option from which to choose. Scaled questions ââ¬â Responses are graded on a continuum (example : rate the appearance of the product on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most preferred appearance Open ended questions ââ¬â No options or predefined categories are suggested. The respondent supplies their own answer without being constrained by a fixed set of possible responses. Examples of types of open ended questions include: * Completely unstructured ââ¬â For example, ââ¬Å"What is your opinion on questionnaires? â⬠* Word association ââ¬â Words are presented and the respondent mentions the first word that comes to ind. * Sentence completion ââ¬â Respondents complete an incomplete sentence. For example, ââ¬Å"The most important consideration in my decision to buy a new house is . . . â⬠* Story completion ââ¬â Respondents complete an incomplete story. * Picture completion ââ¬â Respondents fill in an empty conversation balloon. * Thematic apperception test ââ¬â Respondents explain a picture or make up a story about what they think is happening in the picture Question Sequence Items on a questionnaire should be grouped into logically coherent sections. Grouping questions that are similar will make the questionnaire easier to complete, and the respondent will feel more comfortable. Questions that use the same response formats, or those that cover a specific topic, should appear together. Each question should follow comfortably from the previous question. Writing a questionnaire is similar to writing anything else. Transitions between questions should be smooth. Questionnaires that jump from one unrelated topic to another feel disjointed and are not likely to produce high response rates. Most investigators have found that the order in which questions are presented can affect the way that people respond. Questions in the latter half of a questionnaire were more likely to be omitted, and contained fewer extreme responses. Some researchers have suggested that it may be necessary to present general questions before specific ones in order to avoid response contamination. Other researchers have reported that when specific questions were asked before general questions, respondents tended to exhibit greater interest in the general questions. It is not clear whether or not question-order affects response. A few researchers have reported that question-order does not effect responses, while others have reported that it does. Generally, it is believed that question-order effects exist in interviews, but not in written surveys. Some general rules about question sequence: * flow logically from one to the next * researcher must ensure that the answer to a question is not influenced by previous questions * flow from the more general to the more specific * flow from the least sensitive to the most sensitive * flow from factual and behavioral questions to attitudinal and opinion questions * flow from unaided to aided questions Coding and Tabulating Coding is the technical name used to categorize the data collected. It involves specifying the alternative categories or classes into which responses are to be placed and assigning code numbers to the classes. In fact, coding closed-ended questions are simple, depending on the response pattern one may design the various codes for different responses. Open-ended questions are, however, very difficult to code. Here no uniform rules exit. The researchers have been found to apply their own discretion in developing the coding procedure.. Tabulation consists of simply counting the number of cases that fall into the various categories. It may take the form of simple or cross tabulation. Simple tabulation involves counting the responses based on one variable. One may apply various statistical tools like mean, median, mode, standard deviation or variance to condense and interpret the data. To present the data in graphical form one may make use of various forms of statistical graphs like histogram, frequency polygon, ogive etc. A brief description of these tools is given below. Histogram: It is a form of bar chart where the values of the variable are placed on the X-axis and the frequency of each distinct occurrence is indicated on the Y-axis. Frequency polygon: Figure obtained from the histogram by joining the midpoints of the bars of the histogram with straight lines. Ogive: This graph shows the number of cases having a value less than or equal to specified quantity; that is, the cummulative frequency is generated. Afterwards the cummulative frequencies are plotted along the Y- axis against the given combination of values of the variable (or X-axis). Advantages and Disadvantages of Questionnaires Advantages| Disadvantages| The researcher is able to contact large numbers of people quickly, easily and efficiently using a postal questionnaire | The format of questionnaire design makes it difficult for the researcher to examine complex issues and opinions. Even where open-ended questions are used, the depth of answers that the respondent can provide tend to be more-limited than with almost any other method of research. This makes it difficult for a researcher to gather information that is rich in depth and detail. Questionnaires are relatively quick and easy to create, code and interpret (especially if closed questions are used). In addition, the respondent- not the researcher ââ¬â does the time-consuming part of completing the questionnaire| With a postal questionnaire, the researcher can never be certain the person to whom the questionnaire is sent actually fills it in. For example, if your research is concerned with finding-ou t the opinions of women on a range of issues, it would be less than useful if an unknown number of the questionnaires sent by the researcher were filled-in by men| A questionnaire is easy to standardise. For example, every respondent is asked the same question in the same way. The researcher, therefore, can be sure that everyone in the sample answers exactly the same questions, which makes this a very reliable method of research. | Where the researcher is not present, itââ¬â¢s always difficult to know whether or not a respondent has understood a question properly. | Questionnaires can be used to explore potentially embarrassing areas (such as sexual and criminal matters) more easily than other methods. The questionnaire can, for example, be both anonymous and completed in privacy. This increases the chances of people answering questions honestly because they are not intimidated by the presence of a researcher. | The researcher has to hope the questions asked mean the same to all the respondents as they do to the researcher. This is a problem that can ââ¬â to some extent ââ¬â be avoided by conducting a Pilot Study prior to conducting the real survey | Relatively inexpensive method, does not require any investments| The response rate (that is, the number of questionnaires that are actually returned to the researcher) tends to be very low for postal questionnaires. A 20 ââ¬â 25% return of questionnaires is probably something that most researchers would happily settle for and this may mean that a carefully-designed sample becomes unrepresentative of a target population. | | The problem of the self-selecting sample is particularly apparent in relation to questionnaires. When a response rate is very low the responses received may only be the opinions of a very highly motivated section of the sample (that is, people with strong opinions who take the time and trouble to complete and return a questionnaire)| Questionnaires in Management Management questionnaires are an important way of knowing about the productivity, sales and morale of the company. It provides an opening into the hearts and minds of the employees and enables the management to take corrective steps to change and improve the work environment for enhanced productivity. Managers need to prepare questions for recruitment of staffs, which involves all type of questions from technical to personal. Even managers themselves have to answer questions for their own appraisal process. Before designing the management questionnaire, it is necessary to understand the goal of the questionnaire? What are benefits of the questionnaire to the management and company as a whole? Start with a brief introduction, highlight the objective and motive of the questionnaire and what you aim to achieve from this survey. You can define a wide range of questions on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to make it comprehensive. Make sure the questions are independent in nature and easy to understand. Top level managers need to question their subordinates about their work and need to know about their psychology Thus management questionnaires prove to be very beneficial for various different types of organizations. These questionnaires are not only important for employers but for employees as well. Management questionnaires are used in different type of management such as: * Performance management A performance management questionnaire is an essential instrument for collecting data. This data can be used to enhance management performance. By carrying out a survey on performance management, companies are in a better position to identify areas that require improvement and implement ways through which improvement of performance can be achieved. * Project management A project management questionnaire covers various areas in line with a particular project, the strategic processes of project management, how management processes are coordinated right from their initiation to their eventual completion. This helps to keep track of the progress that is being made and what else can be done. * Time Management A time management questionnaire is formulated for the purpose of evaluating individuals on their time management habits and character traits. Time is an essential resource and effective time management has a significant impact on performance. A time management questionnaire helps people identify areas of their life in which they can improve. * Supply Chain Management Supply chain management is the sensitive procedure being initiated by the corporate to ensure the growth process in which the raw material is supplied to the concerned department to boost the production. In supply chain questionnaire, the concerned department will follow certain working standards to answer all the questions. On the basis of the outcome of this questionnaire, an organization can easily evaluate the percentage of success of the supply chain department. * Human Resource Management A Human Resource Management Questionnaire is a set of questions regarding the management of the human resource department of an organization. It has information regarding the number of employees involved and the structure and functioning of the human resource department. Examples of questionnaires can be found in Appendix Bibliography 1.
